There are many theories concerning the situation of persons migrating in ever greater numbers to the shantytown of the fird world Nations. There are many demographic studies, largely descriptive, which have focused on the volume, rate and types of migration, the explanative and predictive quality of the migrant streams, the charactersitics of places of origin and the destination in terms of rural-urban character, size of city and geographic location and age, sex, race and economic status. Most of these studies have been addressed to redistribution of population and/or re-evaluation of the demographic mix of the migrant stream.
